Pontes is live: a settlement checklist for RWA issuers
Pontes connects tokenized assets to central bank settlement. Use this issuer checklist to assess cash rails, partner access and launch readiness.
What changed
In its 6 October 2026 speech, the European Central Bank said the Eurosystem launched Pontes on 21 September. The service connects market distributed-ledger platforms with Eurosystem services so wholesale tokenized-asset transactions can settle in central bank money. Further capabilities are planned, with full implementation expected by mid-2028.
For an issuer comparing real-world asset tokenization platforms, this creates a concrete due-diligence question: how will investors pay, and how will your team establish that the asset and payment transfers have completed?
Fundshing analysis: put the cash leg in the launch brief
A token contract is only one component of an issuance. A fund subscription, bond placement or private-credit transaction also needs an operating model for payment confirmation, allocation, record reconciliation and exceptions. Our recommendation is to describe that model before selecting a production network.
Pontes is not evidence that every issuer or software platform has direct access. Confirm the participating infrastructure, settlement provider and eligibility for your specific structure. This article does not claim that Fundshing is connected to Pontes.
Five questions for your settlement provider
1. Access: Which entity provides the settlement service, and what onboarding must the issuer and investors complete?
2. Coordination: What event authorizes token delivery? Describe the treatment of partial payments, failed transfers and duplicate instructions.
3. Records: Which records establish completion? Name the owner of reconciliation and specify how discrepancies are resolved.
4. Availability: What hours, cutoffs and dependencies apply today? Separate contracted capabilities from future roadmaps.
5. Recovery: What happens if a provider, network or transaction becomes unavailable? Agree who can pause processing and communicate with investors.
Ask for a written answer and a test scenario for each question. A diagram should identify who holds funds, who controls the asset transfer and who approves an exception.
Build a small, measurable pilot
Choose one asset type, one investor eligibility model and one payment route. Prepare synthetic test cases for a valid subscription, an ineligible recipient, a late payment, a failed delivery and a reconciliation mismatch. Avoid uploading real investor documents to an unapproved test environment.
Evaluate the pilot against business measures: manual interventions per subscription, time to resolve an exception, completeness of evidence and cost per completed transaction. Set targets from your existing process; a faster blockchain timestamp alone is not a business case.
Prepare your issuer brief
Record your asset class, issuer jurisdiction, target investor markets, intended raise, investor restrictions and launch timetable. Add your proposed legal, custody and payment partners, marking any unconfirmed dependency explicitly.
Explore Fundshing’s RWA tokenization workflow and fund/SPV tokenization pages to frame your requirements. Fundshing provides workflow technology; legal advice and regulated services require appropriate independent providers.
